My readers ask who my characters are based on. Everyone I have ever met. As a writer, the inspiration for a story starts to bubble up. A basic outline of the storyline comes next. Who are the main characters and how will they interact with each other?
The first draft establishes the story-what, where and when, just getting the whole concept out of my head.
For me the second draft brings the opportunity to bring the characters to life through additional dialogue and descriptive storytelling.
The third draft goes to the editor for proofreading to make sure that what I see in my head translates to the readers in a way that makes sense, with no typos.
